Drafts of two major documents were completed this week – a collection survey and new policy and procedure manual. Next on the list is an advocacy and outreach plan which will be the focus of the next two weeks. Among the activities planned are a ‘field trip’ to Lewis & Clark College Archives to learn about their curriculum integration efforts and a meeting with Concordia University leadership.

Because the CU Archives are relatively-small and most of the University and Northwest District records have already been described in various internal documents, only a small amount of time will be spent on transferring existing collection-level description to Archivists’ Toolkit. Instead, description efforts will be focused on the Center for Volga German Studies research collection which is a fairly-new addition to the campus. The Center is staffed primarily by a group of dedicated volunteers who are anxious to learn archival procedures. A fair number of researchers are already using the Center, even without a substantial web presence for the collection, so a solid foundation is critical to ensure a good experience for both researchers and staff.
