The GFU archivist, Zoie Clark, has made tremendous progress in general organization of the archives and also preparing a series of finding aids for uploading to the NWDA website. Finding aids will include university records, materials from the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends Church, and privately-donated manuscript collections. Because GFU has not adopted a local instance of Archivists’ Toolkit, they are using a simple Excel spreadsheet to gather appropriate information, then pasting the information directly into the NWDA template using Oxygen software. GFU is looking forward to being one of the first NWDA members to use the upcoming AT hosted service through NWDA.
Earlier this week, University Librarian Merrill Johnson and Zoie hosted members of the Newberg Historical Society for their regular monthly meeting. After a short presentation on the history and holdings of the archives, members toured the facility and looked at a number of local history photographs and documents. Many expressed their intention to return for future research projects.
Next week, Zoie and I will produce a final copy of the Policy and Procedures Manual and also meet with library staff to discuss outreach and advocacy strategies.
