The Linfield College Archives, located in Jereld R. Nicholson Library, reside in a climate-controlled room recently outfitted with compact/mobile shelving. The collections themselves – approximately 500 cubic feet – include special collection books, senior theses, published serials and manuscripts pertaining to the history of American Baptists in the Pacific Northwest, and Linfield College records. Of particular interest within the college records are materials from Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing, the oldest nursing school west of the Mississippi.
Week one was spent meeting staff – Library Director Susan Barnes Whyte, Librarian Kathleen Spring and others – beginning work on the collection survey, and laying out plans for the month’s work. Monographs and serials in the collection have been cataloged and are accessible via the Library’s catalog, Summit and WorldCat, leaving a manageable-sized set of manuscript and college records in need of descriptive work. Upcoming work will concentrate on some minor reorganization, with the help of work study students, and developing a robust set of policy and procedural documents, along with an outreach and advocacy plan.
Congratulations to both George Fox University (20) and Concordia University (46) for uploading finding aids to the NWDA website on July 1st, the first day of their NWDA membership. Good job, Nolan and Zoie!
